Siskiwit Bay

Siskiwit Bay

Wednesday, September 11, 2002

We're staying over a day at Siskiwit Bay. Mike told me the guidebook calls it the Riviera of Isle Royale. It is a beautiful red beach; however, we did not see any liberated women sun bathing in bikinis. Last night we shared a campfire with Lisa and her dad. They headed out early the next morning and we had the beach to ourselves until a boat showed up right around lunchtime. Lyle brought tuna salad on tortillas and this was a great lunch. This was a great day to lounge around and rest. I can tell Mike is in better shape than earlier trips and I know am also. This really does add to the enjoyment of the hiking and a more positive experience. Lyle has made many canoe trips to northern Minnesota, but this is his first backpacking trip with us. I hope he enjoys the solitude. Later in the afternoon, Ed and his dad Peter hiked in (www.angelfire.com/wi2/neu). Peter, age 70, proudly tells us of his Swiss heritage. Later Ed shared yarns with us at another campfire on the beach. Ed later shared in an email that his dad can't stop talking about their trip. Ed, you are my hero! Many happy trails in your future.
